Different types of chimneys

There are a few chimneys to choose from. There are masonry chimneys and there is what is called factory chimneys. Factory chimneys are more varied by the way of construction so consumer choice for what would be best for their home is available.

There are air cooled chimneys that are made with two layers of metal with air in between. The air between the layers of metal absorbs and then dissipates the heat to keep the chimney from overheating and becoming damaged. There are also other air insulated designs with the air acts as insulation. There are also double metal sheets with insulation between them. The insulation absorbs the heat while the two sheets of metal contain the heat that isn't absorbed.

Chimneys made of brick and cement are called masonry chimneys. These are the more traditional chimneys that are built by hand by a mason right onto the house. These chimneys have a flue in them, and are either attached to a wood stove or, more likely, a fireplace.
